At the beginning of the year, we rounded up the best new men’s colognes for 2014. Now, with the year in full swing and with summer just around the corner, there’s no shortage of new scents vying for your attention.
So here’s our rundown of the best of the bunch, from the niche to the notorious.
Ginepro di Sardegna by Acqua Di Parma
If there’s no way you can make it to the Sardinian coast this summer, then consider the latest addition to Acqua Di Parma’s Blu Med line a pretty good alternative. This concoction evokes the scent of the sea breeze as well as the island’s flora and fauna. Also, expect a clear juniper note to take center stage, while black and Jamaican peppers add a little dynamism. Things get a little warmer on the cedarwood drydown however.
Odin 11 by Odin
The 11th olfactive installment from the New York boutique Odin is as edgy as its threads. Mischievously sweet, peppery and warm, this statement maker has hints of chili pepper, cinnamon, tonka bean and heaps of tobacco. This is not one for sunny days by any means, however, if you want something to warm you up from the inside, you can’t beat this.
Globe Trotter by Francis Kurkdjian
By now, all the regular readers will be used to my blind favoritism for all things Francis Kurkdjian. The guy can do no wrong and while the pioneering perfumer doesn’t have another fragrance to add to his ever expanding line of signature scents just yet, he has gone about the job of reinventing the travel spray. This architectural atomizer, available in zinc or gold, can accommodate refills, which are sold separately, for his bestsellers, which include Aqua Universalis, Aqua Universalis forte, Aqua Vitae, Oud and, my personal favorite, APOM.
All of which are perfect for your summer vacation.
Davidoff Cool Water Night Dive
As the old cliché goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. So rather than attempt to reinvent this classic aquatic fragrance, the latest edition of Cool Water is only slightly tweaked for summer 2014. Perhaps more importantly, Night Dive represents Davidoff’s partnership with the National Geographic Pristine Seas Expeditions. The alliance aims to help protect the planet’s precious waters as the oceans cover 72% of the Earth’s surface, but only a paltry 1% of that 72% is protected.
While Cool Water is a bit of a beginner’s fragrance, Davidoff’s philanthropic efforts have suddenly made it a whole lot more appealing.
In the world of perfume and fragrances for men, good perfumes for men are the ones that make them smell like men, which is why choosing the best fragrance for men up to the men that actually buy the fragrances.
